Abstract: Traditional quantification methods for measuring microfibers in water, including weighing method and microscopic counting method, are time-consuming and laborious. To improve this, a UV-Vis method has been developed to measure the two most common types of microfibers (cotton and polyester) released in household washing. Microfiber suspensions was prepared with different mass concentrations, and then the corresponding absorbance was measured at a wavelength of 500 nm to study the correlation between concentration and absorbance. The results show that there is a linear correlation between the absorbance and the mass concentration, and build the linear regression equation for cotton and polyester.
