Abstract: To analysis the performance of the valve system of reciprocating compressor, a 3D fluid structure interaction model of the valve system was built using finite elements software. The lift, speed and stress distribution of the suction and discharge valve were obtained, as well as the mass flux rate and P-V diagram. Therefore, the cooling capacity, indicated power, suction loss and discharge loss were calculated and analyzed, which laid a good foundation for the optimization of valve system in the next step. This simulation model was applied to the optimization of a valve system of a mass-produced variable speed compressor. The experimental comparison between base valve system and optimized new one has showed that the new valve system significantly improved the coefficient of performance (COP) of the compressor, which effectively verify the reliability of the simulation model.
