Abstract: The national standard of air cleaner in China lacks the evaluation of the filter odor. In this paper, a qualitative method for evaluating odor of filters (mainly used for removing gaseous pollutants) is studied. The filters to be measured are put in sealed air bags and stay for different time in different temperature and humidity environments (45℃~75℃, relative humidity 100%). Then odor is detected by sniffing the smell directly by specialized persons. In this paper, 29 kinds of filters of 29 brands of air cleaners on the market are tested using the above methods. The results show that nearly 25% of the filters have odor pollution problems, and the secondary pollution of odor of air cleaners can not be ignored. This paper provides basic data and evaluation methods for putting odor pollution into the next revision of national standard of air cleaner.
