Performance analysis and optimization of gas water heater burner based on synergistic research of CFD simulation and experiment

Abstract: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation and experimental study are carried out to improve the performance of the gas water heater burner. The internal flow field of the burner is simulated and compared with the experimental results. Lift-off flame as well as its inclination are observed due to the nonuniform distribution of velocity field near the outlet of the burner. A rectifying orifice plate is added inside the burner and its effects on burning are then investigated numerically and validated against the experiments. It is found that the performance of the burner is promoted with the more uniform and stable velocity field.
