Abstract: The system compared the differences in thickness requirements for the Glow-Wire Flammability Index (GWFI) and Glow-Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT) tests between the standards GB/T 4706.1—2024 and GB 4706.1—2005, revealing the technical rationale behind the revision and its impact on the household appliance industry. The study demonstrates that the new standard replaces the old rule of "thinner samples covering thicker components" with a "thickness correspondence" requirement. The revision aims to eliminate the risk of misjudgment caused by "loss of contact" of thin samples during testing, thereby strengthening the correlation between material flame retardancy test results and the actual performance of product components. Through interpretation of standard clauses and industry case studies, targeted strategies for enterprises are proposed, providing theoretical support for the safety design and certification of household appliances. Key findings indicate a significant narrowing of the thickness coverage range for referencing material test data in end-product certification, leading to challenges such as increased compliance costs, heightened supply chain coordination pressures, and potential conflicts arising from referencing inconsistencies within the new standard itself.
