Research on the dynamic response of RV air conditioner top cover against hail impact

Abstract: In order to solve the problem of hail impact resistance of the RV air conditioner top cover, a finite element model of the RV air conditioner top cover and hail is established, and the finite element method for simulating hail impact is feasible and the results are reliable. By using LS-DYNA software, considering the impact of driving speed of the RV, the speed of hail, the mechanical properties of hail and the cover, and through simulation analysis, the response at different impact point positions is given. The maximum stress appeared in the impact point area, the maximum stress at the impact point at two impact positions and two vehicle speeds is 21.02 MPa, which is less than the yield strength, the RV air conditioner top cover is safe and meets the design requirements.
