Study on optimization method of suction muffler and experimental verification

Abstract: Suction muffler is an important component of compressor. It’s structural design affects both the cooling capacity, COP and the noise of compressor. By establishing the compression simulation model, this paper can directly calculate the performance parameters of the compressor, such as cooling capacity, power, cop, volume coefficient and so on. Combined with the acoustic cavity transmission loss simulation model, the performance and noise of suction muffler can be optimized synchronously. This method is used to optimize the design of base muffler of a variable speed compressor, and two improved models are proposed. The measured results show that the cooling capacity 72 Hz of the variable speed compressor is increased by about 5%~7%, and the noise is equivalent to that of base. The simulation results are consistent with the measured results.
