Study on properties of plastics contacting with plasticizers commonly used in air conditioner

Abstract: The chemical resistance and stress cracking of ABS and PS plastics were studied under normal and stress conditions by five general plasticizers selected in this paper. The results show that ABS plastics can be used in contact with plasticizers such as acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC), dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP), chlorinated paraffin (CP), dioctyl adipate (DOA) and dioctyl Sebacate (DOS) under normal conditions; the above five plasticizers should be avoided to contact under stress conditions (1% strain). PS plastics can be used in contact with plasticizers ATBC, DOTP and CP, but the elongation decreases due to the influence of DOA and DOS under normal conditions; PS can be used in contact with ATBC and CP to avoid contact with DOTP, DOS and DOA under stress conditions (1% strain). When ABS and PS plastics are used in household appliances, the effect of stress should be considered when evaluating the effect with plasticizer. The presence of stress will reduce the plastic resistance to plasticizer until the plastic breaks.
