    Currently, there are more than 10,000 Canadians who were born 100 years ago. Projections show by the middle of the century, the number of 100-year-olds in Canada may reach as high as 40,000. According to the 2016 census data, for the first time seniors outnumber children in Canada, as the senior population experienced its greatest increase since Confederation. According to demographic projections, the proportion of seniors is expected to increase rapidly in the next decade. This study discusses the impacts of the aging population on Canadians and the Canadian economy. We analyze stay-at home retirement, retirement homes, long-term care facilities, long-term care regulations, long-term care associations, benefits of government-funded long-term care facilities, and challenges in long-term care homes. Some emerging technologies in long-term care are presented. China's rapidly aging population demands a viable long-term care system. We present insights that are applicable to not only Canada but also to China and other countries with a rapidly aging population.

    The development of healthy household appliances is in line with policy guidance, market demand, and industrial upgrading needs. There are many types of household appliances in the market however with uneven quality. The definition of "health" is broad and vague with unclear boundaries, and there is no consensus or standards established in the market yet. When companies promote health functions, there is lack of effective data support. Based on different testing conditions, the products are not comparable. Therefore, the entire health appliance industry urgently needs to improve national and industry related standards. At present, in terms of health functions, the technical requirements and demands are scattered in individual product standard. Our work is to review thoroughly the standards of healthy household appliances and to study on standards in different countries and regions, to define the healthy functions with a uniformed definitions and to reorganize various existing standards, and to divide the standard system into "basic health and safety, fresh air, clean water, diet health, skin health, body sensory monitoring, environment adjustment” the seven categories and build the framework of China's health appliance standard system. By providing guidance on future work and standard formulation, this article is to lay a foundation for the overall layout of national health appliance standards, to spread Chinese wisdom for the global industry of household electrical appliances.

    The key design methods of microphone array structure matching and the influence of microphone array and speaker placement position are studied. The attention points that affect the acoustic structure of microphone array are comprehensively described, and its application in air conditioning is comprehensively analyzed. The proposed design methods and attention points are verified by corresponding engineering tests, which can meet the product application requirements, can better guide the design and production of voice air conditioning.

    Traditional appliances of kitchen pay more attention to the improvement of basic functions, but with the rapid popularization of intelligent technology, there are more and more intelligent elements in the appliances of kitchen. The non-contact proximity sensor based on infrared pulse is applied to kitchen electricity, the intelligent interaction between users and appliances is realized. Firstly, the working principle of the sensor is analyzed, then the working circuit is designed according to the actual scenario. Finally, the feasibility of the sensor is verified by test and research. The influence factors of illumination, transmission ink, reflection color and sensing area were analyzed, results show that the illumination has no effect on the application of the sensor; the sensor works normally only with infrared ink, the color of the obstacle will affect the sensing distance. According to the usage habit of user, the induction area is designed and the induction success rate is high.

    Designs a new voice module based on the domestic Internet of things operating system and equipped with domestic dedicated voice chip and lightweight Wi-Fi chip. Through the reasonable selection of electronic components and the peripheral circuit design of voice module, the hardware resources of voice module can be fully utilized, and the efficient recognition performance of voice system can be guaranteed as much as possible while reducing the cost. The speech recognition algorithm is customized according to the hardware characteristics of the speech module to ensure that it can meet the needs of the product speech recognition performance. Because of its low cost, low power consumption and high performance, voice module is easy to be widely used in the field of household appliances.

    In order to measure the deformation and vibration of refrigerator compressor in a non-contact way, a displacement measurement system based on laser sensor was developed. Compared with the traditional micrometer mechanical probe testing method, this method has many advantages, the first is non-contact, the second is that structural vibration can be measured, the third is that data can be recorded and analyzed in real time by measurement software. The refrigerator reciprocating compressor was selected as the measurement and validation objects. The displacement of cylinder cover or connecting rod and vibration of suction valve were tested by the laser sensor testing system. Three methods were used to verify each other, which are laser sensor testing system, micrometer and finite element simulation. The result shows that the data from three methods are in good agreement with each other, which verifies the accuracy of the laser displacement sensor testing system for compressor.

    The remaining life assessment of electrical and electronic products parts is a work with high social application value. In the context of circular economy, people achieve sustainable development through the pursuit of increasing product value, optimizing resource utilization and reducing environmental impact. The remanufacturability evaluation of used electrical and electronic products, product system eco-efficiency evaluation, and government’s market access and supervision of used products are all closely related to the remaining life of the product parts. Therefore, accurate assessment of the remaining life of the product parts is the prerequisite for the above work, it has important practical significance. Selects typical samples that have used stepped working hours and adopts failure analysis detection methods to explore the possibility of micro-defect change rules in determining the life stage of parts, summarizes the detection methods that are more sensitive to life defects, and summarizes the effectiveness of related detection technologies. It is expected to be used for reference and reference in the fields of government supervision, product waste attribute identification, and manufacturability evaluation of related product parts.

    As a part of the rotary compressor exhaust passage, the motor passage has a great influence on the motor efficiency, oil output rate and compressor performance. Through the method of combining CFD simulation and experimental, the influence of the flow area and channel form of the motor on the performance of the compressor is systematically studied. The research results show that when the flow area of the motor passage is different, the phase, amplitude and number of waves of the pressure pulsation curve at the bottom of the motor are different, and the compressor performance does not increase with the increase of the flow area of the motor passage; when the area is the same, the phase, amplitude and number of waves of the pressure pulsation curve at the bottom of the motor are basically the same, independent of the channel form.

    The safety performance of electronic components has always been one of the main parts of household appliances safety assessment. For frequency conversion compressor, frequency conversion circuit board is one of the indispensable parts. However, due to the high difficulty and high risk of testing, the testing of frequency conversion circuit board is often ignored by the engineers. In order to study the safety performance of frequency conversion circuit board, according to the method in Chapter 19 of GB 4706.1 “Household and similar electrical appliances—Safety—Part 1: General requirements”, the fault testing of frequency conversion circuit of a domestic brand D compressor was carried out. The test mainly focuses on the low-power circuit judgment and short-circuit part of the fault system layout and result display. It is hoped that this study will provide reference for the safety test of compressor inverter circuit board in the future.

    Taking the project of air purifier with double air inlet duct as the research case, this paper designed and researched the fan of it. Firstly, some theoretical plans were selected and optimized by the Flow Simulation module. Then the optimized designs were made into hand-board prototype and completed the test validation. The measured results prove the research method has a certain guiding significance for the design and development of air purifier fan.

    Based on the design requirement of increasing air volume and reducing noise of outdoor unit of air conditioner, the influence of axial matching size between axial flow blade and guide ring of outdoor unit of air conditioner was studied. The results show that with the increase of the distance of the blade extending into the guide ring, the air volume first increases and then decreases, with an increase of about 16m3/h. the fan power gradually decreases, but finally tends to be stable, and the fan noise gradually increases. The results show that when the blade extends into the guide ring by 70%, the increase of air volume reaches the highest. According to the research results, the air conditioning products can be further optimized to improve the competitiveness of the products.

    There is an obvious buzz in the outdoor unit for a running air conditioning system with a fixed speed compressor, which seriously affects the sound quality of air conditioner. The noise signals of air conditioner are collected and further analyzed by a band-stop filter. It is found that the buzzing noises are beat frequency signals induced by the modulation of two similar frequencies of 174 Hz and 178 Hz. Accordingly, the excitation source has two kinds of vibrations with two different frequencies. The first frequency corresponds to the three-fold rotational frequency of the compressor, while the second one is the two-way slip frequency of the asynchronous motor. As such, the vibrations of sheet metal are amplified by the resonance of the exhaust pipe, leading to abnormal noises. Finally, the structure of the exhaust pipe is optimized by establishing constrained simulation model. The results show that the buzzing noises are eliminated, and the sound quality of the air conditioner is greatly improved.

    Refrigerator pipeline resonance noise has always been one of the main sources of noise in the refrigerator machinery room. The exhaust pipe is the main pipeline component of the machinery room, and the pipeline resonance noise generated by it has always been the focus of research. Generally, reducing the resonance noise of the exhaust pipe is mainly by applying a corresponding number of shock-absorbing hammers on the exhaust pipe to achieve the purpose of reducing vibration and noise. This method not only needs to specifically consider the location of the shock-absorbing hammer, but also needs to increase the cost budget. Based on this, in view of the resonance noise of the compressor exhaust pipe, a certain model of refrigerator was selected, and the structure optimization design of the exhaust pipe was carried out under the condition of controlling the pipe length unchanged, and the performance was optimized by combining simulation analysis technology. The results show that, combined with the natural frequency simulation results, by changing the original pipeline direction of the exhaust pipe, it can achieve the vibration and noise reduction effect of the original damping hammer. The first order frequency error is only 0.063%, which not only achieves the original reduction. It also reduces the budget cost to a certain extent, and provides a reliable reference and direction for the refrigerator pipeline resonance noise research and pipeline structure optimization design.

    At present, there are many manufacturers and product types of room air conditioners in China. Due to the different market positioning of manufacturers and products, the performance and energy efficiency of air conditioners at different prices show obvious differences. In order to analyze the reasons for the differences between different products and the specific composition of product parts, three models of air conditioners with different prices and different energy efficiency grades of two domestic large-scale air-conditioner enterprises were disassembled, and the parameters of indoor and outdoor heat exchangers,electrical components and fans were compared, and the impact of the differences was briefly analyzed according to the experimental test data. This study is helpful for the researchers of china to have a better understanding of the parameters of air conditioner parts and the influence of parts changes on the whole machine, so as to guide the development of new products.

    The refrigerator door seal is mainly made of soft Polyvinyl chloride (S-PVC). The long-term reliability of the refrigerator door seal is related to the quality and usability of the refrigerator. In this work, we mainly focused on the migration effects of refrigerator door seals produced by different manufacturers on different materials of panels. The addition of plasticizers can significantly improve the processing performance of PVC, and products of different shapes can be obtained, however, the plasticizer in the door seals could precipitate under external load and at certain temperature, further infiltrate and contaminate the panels. The impact on high impact polystyrene (HIPS) panels is the most serious, while the impact on the sprayed board is small. The migration to the panels can be reduced after the door seal formula and production process being improved.

    The current national standard of air purifier GB/T 18801-2015 recommends that using the laser particle counter to measure the clean air delivery rate of particulate matter and the particulate mass concentration tester to measure cumulate clean mass of particulate matter. It is meaningful to explore the reliability of the particulate mass concentration tester for measuring the clean air delivery rate of particulate matter by analyzing consistency and uncertainty of measurement result of the above two devices. The results indicate that the measurement results of the clean air delivery rate for particulate matter obtained by TSI 8530 and TSI 3340A showed high consistency, and displayed low uncertainty of measurement.

    The performance and reliability of air-conditioning system are greatly affected by the connection of air-conditioning system components, the processing quality and the cleanliness in the pipe. The quantitative calculation of the performance and reliability of air-conditioning system is carried out by using industrial endoscope combined with metallographic analysis, vacuum helium inspection, fatigue technical life, cooling capacity loss and so on. It is found that the pulse test life is reduced by 84% due to the internal machining defects. The air conditioning cooling capacity is 200 W, EER energy efficiency ratio is 0.25, and the total power loss is 58.2%. The quantitative control standards of air conditioning pipe welding, machining defects, and oil blockage are further formulated.

    On the basis of the experimental data to verify the reliability of the numerical simulation results, the flow field and temperature field distribution characteristics in preheating stage of forced convection oven with different fan positions were compared and studied. The results show that, the flow field distribution of the fan rear mounted convection oven presents the characteristics of symmetry about the fan axis. Under the extrusion of the suction air flow of the fan, the outlet air flow will first arrive near the wall of the cavity, which makes the wall surface prone to appear high temperature region corresponding to the eddy current scale. In the flow field of the fan top mounted convection oven, it is easy to form large-scale airflow vortex in the middle of the fan. The outlet air flows around the central vortex, and the temperature field is low in the middle and high around. And the vertical plane temperature difference of the fan rear mounted convection oven is smaller, while the horizontal plane temperature difference of the fan top mounted convection oven is smaller. The results provide a useful reference for the selection of fan position and the improvement of temperature field uniformity of convection oven.

    The grille exhibited a serious jitter problem during the prototype test of a fan, after testing, the vibration reached -5.1 dB, which was much higher than the target value of -12 dB. A systematic study of the jitter problem of a fan from the aspects of excitation source, transmission path and response, and carries out the modal and vibration transfer function of the head and grille of the fan through combination of simulation and experiment. The analysis and benchmarking of the fan clarified the mode frequency of structure to avoid first-order rotation fundamental frequency of the fan speed. By designing two different vibration isolation methods for the motor and the grille, the vibration of the whole machine is reduce to -17.1 dB, which perfectly solves the problem of jitter.
